Why plant-based?

Good morning folks, and happy Sunday!

Firstly apologies for the impromptu break last week, we had a small error but all resolved now!

This week, we have been speaking to a few people about why being a plant-based business matters to them. As you may, or may not, know here at The After School Cookie Club we’re actually vegan and made without gluten, this means that for a lot of people we’re a really good diet friendly option that they may not have from other dessert places. Whether it’s due to intolerances, lifestyle choices, or just plain cravings for raw cookie dough, everyone has a reason to enjoy our products. So here’s some accounts of it matters:

Jesse - The owner of the company:

In 2020 we decided to test the limits of what was possible for plant based sweet treat creations. We opened our first cookie bakery in Boxpark Shoreditch.

Our mission - to pioneer the most creative, delicious and indulgent plant-based cookies made with the loveliest and most desirable seasonal ingredients.

We freshly bake our cookies throughout the day and top them by hand. Each flavour is innovatively different , gooey in the middle and visually beautiful.

As the owner of The After School Cookie Club, I can tell you that we’re here to change the way people think. We’re excited to challenge the status quo and create something that we’re extremely proud of. The best tasting cookies in the world that also have a better outcome for us, the planet and animals.

Alec - A Shoreditch local

I appreciate the fact that the company manages to make changes to sustainable and eco-friendly products without ever sacrificing quality.

The double chocolate, orange chocolate and black forest cookies feel rich and really do give you everything you'd want from chocolate while still being plant-based, you could easily be mistaken into thinking that there was dairy and eggs in the products.

I made the switch to oat milk and wanted to make changes elsewhere in my day to day life. It's nice to be able to have a guilt free treat that still feels like I'm not missing out on anything.

Zoë - One of our vegan staff members

As a vegan it is important to me that I work for a company that aligns with my values and has a positive impact.

Working within a plant-based business means that I can be excited about the work I do; making delicious vegan food, in this case desserts, accessible to vegans, people with dietary requirements and non-vegans alike. It’s always exciting to change people’s minds about plant-based foods and encourage people to make more ethical and sustainable decisions in their consumption of desserts and coffees.

Lauren - A Croydon local with coeliac and a lactose intolerance

A few years ago I found out that I could no longer have dairy or gluten and it was very eye opening for me. I suddenly found I had very little options anywhere I went to eat, I could often only have something dairy free or gluten free, and most times it was the same options regardless of the restaurant, especially for dessert. I often use Too Good To Go, but find that the limited options for allergen friendly foods can make it difficult, knowing that I have The After School Cookie Club as an option just makes it easier for me.

Xan - Shoreditch staff member, with a dairy intolerance

When I first heard about TASCC I was amazed to find a completely plant-based dessert option especially as I had pretty much cut out dairy for years already. I really missed having a nice range of dessert options that wasn’t some kind of ice based dessert, or very dark chocolates so it was amazing to find. I also try to eat more sustainably and have been eating more plant-based meals regularly too, so working for a company that not only helps people like me have the options they love but is supporting a more sustainable lifestyle felt right.

So that’s it from us this week folks, we love being a plant based company!

For our self care Sunday tip let’s try and do something for ourselves and our environment, buy yourself one of our lovely sweet treats, recycle the packaging, and then try and do something sustainable. Whether it’s eating a plant-based meal, planting some wild flowers for the bees, or even reducing your waste by reusing or recycling. We would love to see what you do so don’t forget to tag us online and show us what you’re doing for yourself and your environment.
